Yes. [/ QUOTE ] What if a couple of my cards are dead (and someone behind has a higher upcard), or like AKJ w/ a Q behind, or AQJ w/ a Q behind... etc. |

Re: Really simple Stud High 3rd street Question
dead cards = don't bother, unless tables v tight.
I'd prolly raise w one hi card behind; it's pretty marginal whether I'd play or not, but I might be tighter than many. |

Re: Really simple Stud High 3rd street Question
As long as there's some chance that you'll buy the antes, this is fine.

Re: Really simple Stud High 3rd street Question
This is a little more marginal, and it's marginal to begin with. You're not giving up much by folding, and limping isn't unreasonable, either.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm 80% sure neither LFTV nor I would ever open limp the highest upcard at the table (and one of the only two high ones) UTG. Like the other thread...that can't be right. Folding might well be OK because I have no clue re: the equity of this hand vs. a call range/how likely we are to steal* and we're probably acting first for a while; raising can't be that bad, either, since we're totally live. I'd probably raise in a cash game because I might as well play fishy and get myself into a bunch of marginal but profitable spots to learn this game/fold in a tournament, but anyway...my point is that calling and saying "I don't have queens/let's see a fourth" cannot possibly be good. edit: Okay, playing around with twodimes reveals we're around 60/40 dogs on average to some 'decent' coldcalling hand like 554. Some of those are going to fold to our raise, though, and we're not getting 3 bet here without the nuts. Sooooo...overall this looks like it's vaguely profitable as the bottom of your range, although, as it turns out, something like TJQ is actually better (I guess your increased straight outs count for more). |

Re: Really simple Stud High 3rd street Question
What's the question? Looks standard to me at a typical table.
