Default \'install win 95\' - I run XP - help

I dug out of an old box a copy of Westwoods Command and Conqueor Red Alert. This copy has an instillation promp but only states "install win 95." Now I run XP, and when I hit this intall button, I get the 'thinking' timer for 10 seconds, then nothing happens. ANy ideas here?

I have another copy called 'the first 10 years.' This is asking for a confirmation code, which was on hte case I lost about 5 years back. Don't know what to do here, either.

Obviously I've written the company, and i'm waiting to hear back. Looking for any quick fixes you guys might have.

BTW, I am legit here. I bought both.

Command and conqueor probably around 1997. This is giving me the 'install win95' issue.

I bought the 'first 10 years' about 1 year ago, and haven't played it since last march (my bday). Since then i've moved, and replaced a computer due to viruses. This previous computer, you guess it, ran windows 95. I can assure you I am on the 'up and up' here.

I'd be satisfied if I could get eitehr of my copies to work.

Thank you for any help.

RORY

I thought there were Win95 emulators out there for free. Anybody remember the name?

try right-clicking the setup exe or the program exe and choosing properties. then say Run as... and make it run as Windows 95?

Gold: Isn't RunAs for running as a different User? Do you have a user named Windows 95 w/ a different hardware profile or something? lol. (RunAs is before you hit properties, too, btw...it's in the right click menu)

I assume he's talking about the "run in compatibility mode" feature. It should work, but just be sure to do that on all the executables when installing and running the game. Also, make sure you un-check the install DirectX boxes during installation.
