Wright definitely is not having anywhere near the best offensive season, but I suppose he's got a real chance for MVP simply because there may not be anyone having a better year who will be on a playoff team.

Utley, Hanley, Holliday and Prince all have better stats that Wright.

Cabrera and Chipper have very similar stats.

What makes Wright your choice?

I dont like including pitchers for the MVP, that's what the CY Young award is for.

unless they have ridiculous seasons, any player playing on a non playoff team will not get much consideration at all for mvp. so i'll actually support the absence of ramirez cabrera howard etc. phils can still make the playoffs but i dont really like calling howard the mvp when his numbers are really down from last year and rollins has had a much better season imo.

a couple weeks ago i was gonna say reyes wud be mvp, but hes been slumping lately, and even tho he only batted 300 last year, something about him just seems not as good this year. Wright on the other hand has been so consistent the entire season and if he keeps his current pace he'll have .320 / 30 / 100 / 30sbs. i think the 30 sbs puts him over the top for mvp

I would be quite surprised if Wright manages to maintain a .320 average, thought I expect him to hit 30 hr and have 100-110 ribbies. Some consideration also should probably be given to his defense, which has been quite spotty.

Cabrera and Chipper are both very similar to Wright offensively but Wright has ~100PA more then Chipper, 30 steals (and only 4cs!) and he is the best defender of the three.

Utley would be my 2nd choice and 1st had he not been injured.

Hanely has probably been worth more offensively but loses ground on defense.

Wright has been more valuable then Fielder just on the offensive side, before even taking in positional adjustments and defensive performance, so that one is easy.

Holiday is pretty awesome but plays half his games in Denver and plays an easier/less important position.

He makes some mistakes but more then makes up for it by having +range.

Doesn't this ESPN stat page indicate that his range is mediocre, or am I misreading the information?
