Default Non Poker Strategy Books to Read

I'm going to be spending a week in the hospital (gf is getting a kidney transplant) and there will be a ton of downtime.

I don't think I'll be able to play much poker between lack of internet connection and the stress of the week, so I'm looking for some books to read.

These don't have to be about poker, probably prefer them not to be for the most part.

If you could provide a brief description or link to a review that you agree with for the most part, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ryan

(Also, not sure if this is supposed to be poker-only books, it does not say in the description but I read this forum semi-regularly and figured it was ok to post here).

Barry Greenstein's book, there's a little strategy in it, but mostly it deals with psychological gambling concepts. It's a great read, poker-related, but in a different sort of way.

On the non-poker side, I'm assuming that you're a young male, in which case you'll probably like Chuck Palahniuk's books. He's the guy who wrote Fight Club. IMO, his best books other than Fight Club are Choke (about a sex addict con artist dealing with his mother's alzheimers), Invisible Monsters (about a fashion model whose face is shot off and goes out to get revenge), and Haunted (about a group of aspiring writers who get locked in an abandoned theater and resort to cannibalism). He also has a new book out, which I haven't read yet, called Rant: an Oral Biography of Buster Casey. All of his books are clever, [censored]-up and very funny.

I read Positively Fifth Street and read most of Greenstein's book in the store.

I also read Choke back in high school or early college and liked it.

I'm looking more for something along the lines of true stories I think.

I have a few hundred fiction books in a variety of categories, mostly true crime/murder mystery/horror genre and am looking to mix it up a bit.

Between a few of the older "history" poker books, my forum reading and talking to a few older poker players I think I've explored a good amount of what there is to explore in poker history books.

Wall Street stories, autobiographies and maybe even some underrated pure history is what I'm looking for, for the most part.

Historical fiction perhaps as well if it comes highly recommended.

Anything else any poster enjoys you can post as well, I'll definitely appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks again.

Band of Brothers. Great book. It will make you sad that there isn't a war on.

Oh, wait....

Seriously though, Band of Brothers.

Read Nature Girl by Carl Hiaasen. Nothing to do with poker, and a really fun read.

I liked Aces & Kings. It is short biographies of famous players. The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King is an interesting read.

I read poker books but everything else is boob tube or Internet.
