All a psychological state ifo (in Freud's opinion). During the early stages of one's life, one becomes fixated on having an object in or around one's mouth. (I forget the name, however, phallic maybe? whatever) And more than often evidences are shown of that fixation/obsession later on in life.
Other instances involve the "anal" stage of childhood, but that's an entirely different thread ldo.
