I'm guessing you are going to lose this. If he was eager to get action from you on this, he probably has it in the bag.

Many people take the gallon of milk challenge with huge confidence too. Doesn't mean they have any idea of what they can actually handle.

I nearly completed the gallon of whole milk in an hour challenge. Less than 1 cup away with 5 minutes to go.

Re: the 1000 push up challenge. I think it can be done. I'd bet that I could do it. Back when I used to not work on Sundays, I'd make myself do 2 push ups and 2 sits up for every minute of football that I watched. In 4 hours that would come to 480 pushups and sit ups. It was a work out, sure, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't so fatigued that I couldn't have done double that number and then 40 more to get to 1000.

1000 isn't that crazy. Given his height/weight/benchstats I'd take him up on the bet here, but it's not as improbable as you might think.

5'10" // 185 // 8% bodyfat // 330 1RM // 185 x 18-20

I'd take myself laying 2:1.

185 lbs at 5'8" is like really big for someone who is not morbidly obese or a NFL running back, it seems likely that his muscle mass far outstrips his stamina and this seems like an easy win for you...

[/ QUOTE ]

If that 185 was muscle mass he wouldn't be benching so little. OP stated it's not fat so this guy might be just, big-boned? I stand by my post, easy money.

[/ QUOTE ]

i'm a little under 5'10, about a year ago i weighed 185 and benched 185. I have broad shoulders and look stronger than I am, and I don't look fat/am not fat. 185 was definitely pushing it though.

Yeah, but those people don't usually offer the prop, they accept it. This whole thing started with the guy coming in and saying "hey, I bet you $50 I can do 4k push ups in a day" and negotiating from there, very strange.

Maybe I am just cynical, but when I left home to be a degen, my father took me aside and said "son, I'm sorry I can't stake you to a proper bankroll, but instead let me give you some advice. One day in your travels you will meet a man who will show you a brand new deck of cards upon which the seal has not been broken. This man will offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of the deck and squirt cider in your ear. But you will not take this bet son, because as sure as you are standing there you will end up with an ear full of cider."

At any rate, Guys and Dolls aside, I am much more leery of prop bets people offer me than of prop bets I offer them.

I agree but not with physical bets with muscle heads. Easy money for karak imo.

I'll weigh in here...I've made a similar bet and thought I had it. Me and my buddy bet $50 each, that our semi big 190lb 5'8 friend couldn't do a thousand pushups in 1 hr, right after he did a big chest workout...I lost. He's a freak though and can bench 315 over 15 times so his bodyweight even when he was exhausted wasn't to hard for him. He was a pollack and bought vodka with the cash after and got wasted lol. The moral, it is doable just depends on the person....4 hrs should be nothing.

I'm curious what the ideal ratio of sets/reps would be for this. E.g., why would he be more likely to finish 10 sets of 100 with a 20 minute break between sets than 100 sets of 10 with 2 minute break between sets (or vice-versa).

um 4 pushups a minute is a joke. But for someone who weighs 185, it *might* be difficult. 1000 in two hour would actually require *some* training, but not a lot. 1000 in one hour would require a lot more training, but definitely not super difficult by any standard.
