Default 3bet.net thread

Coaching stuff/hints/discussion is on the rise in SSNL and uNL the last month. The thread I locked and moved here seems to be an obvious no-no according to Mat's wishes re: coaching.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If at all possible I think these sorts of threads should be allowed to stick around. It's not really advertising for 3bet since everyone already knows what it is, it's trying to get feedback from a target audience and it's not like a side banner is going to be able to replace that.

Mat said here no threads about coaching even if they weren't spam.

xorbie,

"It's not really advertising for 3bet since everyone already knows what it is"

Hahahahaa, that is just about the dumbest thing I've ever read on 2+2.

daryn,

both points are valid:

1) even if everyone knew, advertising is advertising.

2) but everyone doesn't know, the site gets a ton of new posters, most of everyone in the world has not heard of 3-bet.

all in all, while it's pretty dumb, it sadly doesn't come close to many things said around here in terms of outright stupidity.

I should explain that I was under the impression that 3bet had a banner on the side which apparently they don't.

edit: And none of this adresses my point which is that there's no way they could get a banner on the side that asks these sorts of questions which is the main issue IMO. I suppose a compromise is to just have krantz pay the monthly cost for a an ad somewhere and let these threads stay up which should work out for everyone. I should add that I'm a little biased since I'm one of the coaches so this very indirectly benefits me.

xorbie,

I think the main issue is that you don't seem to know what "advertising" is.

Anyway, regarding your last post, that makes some sense but under the current 2+2 policies it wouldn't be fair to other advertisers.

I agree that in some sense it's not fair to other advertisers, but at the same time the people who run and coach for 3bet are generally very visible, high profile posters here on 2+2 who help drive traffic here in the first place. Again, I'm biased in their (our) favor, but I just feel like clamping down on these sorts of posts isn't helping anybody since it's not the sort of thing we can say "buy an ad, you can't post this in the forums", and also the sort of thing that's easy to circumvent by just posting a thread titled "Hypothetical coaching idea".

xorbie,

If this is allowed, posters should be allowed to have "Coaching" in their location. It's the same discussion.

This is free advertising, plain and simple. Tons of people do not know about 3bet. And even if everyone at 2+2 DID know about 3bet, it would STILL be advertising. That is why your initial statement was so f'ing ridiculous.

But what we are talking about now is something different. It's whether or not 2+2 posters should be allowed to promote their poker-related services for free to some degree. On this matter, I actually agree with you. However, 2+2 has been very clear on their policy regarding this, and I don't see any reason why there should be an exception here.
