I'm a bit disgusted that he took the opportunity to inflict as much pain as he could for no benefit to himself, and I think this stems from a feeling like he somehow has poor morals, but I think you all are going to dissect this more than i care to.

It gives a different perspective on things like regulations and government intervention. Block, Dilorenzo, Rothbard, Hoppe, and so on have great podcasts you can download.

They are centered around the voluntaryist principle.

Sports forum thread

It turns out the fat guy has terminal cancer. He is participating in "Make-a-Wish" and his wish was to participate in a MMA fight.

[/ QUOTE ]

Although an intensive, five minute Internet search has turned up nothing to support this...this seems to be the only plausible explanation.

At first I chose to skip watching the clip (not a big fan of weakies getting the crap kicked out of them) but then I read this and checked the linked thread.

While the kid is clearly over matched, he's not exactly pummeled. Damage at the hands of a professional MMA fighter should be extreme and, in this case, it isn't. I'm sure he's not feeling too hot after the fight but, this could/should have been much, much worse if Rothwell really let's loose...he never does.

In the end, I think highly-trained, professional MMA fighters are idiots when they agree to step in the ring and fight other highly-trained, professional MMA fighters. (same holds true for boxers). It's not going to stop me from enjoying the fights. So if this kid wanted to do this instead of just meeting the guy or going to Disneyland or whatever, more power to him.

Note: If I was this kid I would have picked Muhammed Ali instead. Would have been a much cooler story to tell and a much closer fight.
