Vacation Snaps thread
Okay, here's me after just going through a waterfall into a cave behind it. The cave is supposed to be the last resting place of Merlin.
I've never been through a waterfall before. It was very cold and very, very wet. If anyone wonders what the t-shirt was, it was the traditional 'Welcome to Las Vegas' logo. |

That's a very cool shot of you. How deep is the cave behind the waterfall? Did you have flashlights?

Re: Vacation Snaps thread
I didn't know it was there, so didn't go prepared. We just happened across it.
It wasn't a very big cave. The stone in front of it (on the right of the picture) is said to be the stone where Arthur pulled the sword, btw. It's called 'The Giant's Boot'. |

Last Semptember I was lucky enough to attend the Ryder Cup. They allow you to take pictures on the practice day.

Re: Vacation Snaps thread
Brits,
Can anyone tell me about the English coastline. Do people visit it on their holidays? I never hear people talk about going to the beach in England. I looked at my atlas and according to the map it would appear that you're surrounded by ocean over there. Are these swimmable beaches or are they rocky and cold? Come to think of it, I've never even seen an English beach in the movies. What the hell is going on over there?! When I think about holidays in England all I can picture is Withnail and I in the rainy countryside . While we're at it, which is the British channel that people are always attempting to swim? |

Re: Vacation Snaps thread
Not a Brit but have travelled there a bit. Dover to Calais is the channel swim, I believe. Brighton is a beach resort town, with a pretty cool 19th century-style arcade set on pilings. Beach was very rocky, IIRC. The kind of beach where waves hurl stones at your toes.

Re: Vacation Snaps thread
Aha! - Kilgore is right. Evidence that people do in fact go to the beach in England. Who knew? Of course I'm not seeing many bathing suits but I guess they are pretty far to the north.
Thanks for the info, Kilgore! |

Re: Vacation Snaps thread
that looks like Brighton (south).
There's a few beaches in movies. Quadrophenia shows Brighton beach, an old film with Laurence Olivier called 'The Entertainer' (I think) had some sandy beach, and the intro to the TV show the prisoner shows him driving over black rock sands, which is near the place the series was filmed (and yes, cars can drive for miles along this beach). We have pebbly, rocky, and sandy beaches. Sandy tends to be in more sheltered coastline. |
