Cats are generally pretty small... and as long as you're affectionate to them early on (get them as kittens obviously) and don't hit them / ignore them, they'll be loyal and friendly and affectionate and such. I dunno about behaving like a dog... usually they're a bit more mellow, and a lot less work.

Well, how do you mean? You have a 800 sq ft condo. Are you taking your dog hunting with you? Are you teaching it to save your life? I don't think that you want a DOG that acts like a dog.

If you're talking about a small dog, a cat is better in almost every instance. And while I wouldn't say that you should leave your cat alone for 4 straight months, cats can go for a few days at a time unsupervised.

My advice if you REALLY want to get pets is to get two kittens. That way they keep themselves company when you're gone, and you can teach them whatever you like.

Dogs are MUCH higher maintainence, and to be honest it doesn't seem like you really have that much time to devote to it anyway.

everything TomVeil just said is correct, 2 kittens > 1 kitten/cat, since they're company for one another and they become better adjusted pets

This is totally not the case, if you walked into my house and sat down my cat would be sitting in your lap nuzzling into your face in like 1-3 minutes. It's all about how you treat them when they're kittens.

FYP.

OP, no dog, maybe a cat. Getting a dog would be horribly cruel. They're pack animals and being alone really reallly hurts them.
