Default Commerce $300 Rebuy hand - AQo calling All-in?

Commerce $300 Rebuy $250K GTD. 11 players final two tables. First place 131K. 10th 7K. We are 5-handed. The other table is 6-handed. One more to go for FT.

Villain is tight player and plays typical "folding to FT" play.

Blinds 4/8/1K.
Hand 1, CL utg raised with AJ, villain pushed all-in with AA and double up to 120K.

The very next hand, villain open pushes for 120K. Fold to hero @SB with AQo, our stack 110K. Hero?

(230K will be top 2 chip leads in FT, 1.3m chips in play. Only CL is 250K, everyone else around 100K)

I'm doubtful djk, the player described is usually shoving pairs and decent aces here.

in a commerce tournament where i doubt anyone folds, i dont mind waiting for a better spot. people really suck, and shoving seems bad here.

Fold. I don't think it's close. It would be closer if there were 11-12 left, so that winning would let you steal a few blinds shorthanded.

If I doubled up with AA in this spot in the tournament I would be thinking "vroom, vroom" and immediately looking to press my increased stack in the hope of accumulating more chips on the bubble - and AQ would likely be good against my range here.

But, the unfortunate reality is that the type of player you described does not think like that. His mentallity is more "wooo hoooo - I have enough to fold to the FT". And this shove is probably a direct product of him waking up on QQ+ the next hand and thinking "ah no, I guess I have to play this; [censored] it - I'm all in".

So I would personally fold AQ here without too much thought and feel good about it.

And on a final point, you are on a pay bubble so lasting one spot does have a direct $EV value. I know you are playing for first and won't be primarily concerned about that fact - but it should be somewhat factored into your decisions and it does push this ( however slightly) further towards a fold.

Villain pushes from UTG in 5-handed table. Villain just doubled up with AA >AJ last hand.

My first thought was insta-fold. My first reaction, I was pretty sure the pushing range is very tight at AQ+ or 99+.

But after some thought, this is 5-handed and villain seemed to be playing a rush here, in this case the pushing range could be AJ or 55-TT, I didn't want to pass this opportunity to double up and take chip lead into FT.

I finally called and my AQo was good against ATo. I was 2/10 into FT.

In general, (if no 5-handed and no playing rush) It was a bad call IMO.
