Re: Stud /8 1/2 line check?
Fourth street is well worth raising. Either the guy behind you is calling or he isn't. If he's on spades, he'll call two bets, and if he's on a low draw, he shouldn't even call the one bet.
I would bet out on fifth, but I'm not convinced that chicken-calling is terrible. I would also bet sixth, but I'll make the same observation as fifth. I would bet the river as you did, but when seat 2 raises, it looks like he's probably made a better low than yours, especially if he has a clue. You've been representing a low draw the whole way, and your bet makes it look like you finally got there. I don't think he's raising with an Eight. You call, of course, but I wouldn't re-raise. |

Re: Stud /8 1/2 line check?
andy, what if hero had a perfect 7 - would you jam the river then? If the villian has a str8 there's a good chance hero's 7-6 low is the best hand, but it probably is overly aggressive .. nevertheless he is getting good value with two others in the pot so it is good timing for an agressive play.

Re: Stud /8 1/2 line check?
I think calling the raise is better than re-raising the river. There is no reason to put villian on a straight. You can account for three 6's and a 7 making the 8 high straight unlikely. On 6th street, you are showing two pair another player bet into you with a clear high hand involving a board pair of jacks ; indicating a) he has 6s up beat or b) he is very bad at this game. On the river he already called a bet from you, again indicating he can beat 6's up.
Given these factor I don't think the high or low are good. I think the river re-raise may have made your high hand good by convincing a better high hand that you hit a boat but I wouldn't count on that happening enough to make this a justifiable manouver. |

[/ QUOTE ] That was more or less the idea and, well, it worked. Both players in the middle folded and the river raiser called with a worse low so I scooped. Very lucky I guess. |

Re: Stud /8 1/2 line check?
I would definitely raise 4th and bet 5th.
It's tempting to reraise the river with a player with a potentially inferior low trapped in the middle, but I'm not sure your low hand is good once you get raised by this player since you have a fairly strong board. I think it's prudent to just call rather than try to win one extra bet (half a double bet from the player with a presumably worse low hand) by risking two (he will usually cap you when you're beat and you end up getting scooped by both opponents). |
