Yeah, I realized soon after I posted my "help me" that I'd blown it. But I do appreciate the replies. Hopefully the thread will weather the occasional foot-related suggestion and remain PH-centric. But hey, at least the issue of foot care is (slightly) germane to B&M play. Seems like everywhere I've ever played in a casino the parking lots are huge and the walks are long.

Not at Bay 101, especially because you could get a handicapped parking placard.

Acupuncture, massage and/or an Osteopath who does Osteopathic Manipulation(older the better). Reasonable foot care, shoes, supports). There is even a horseshoe type donut which can be placed in the heel of your shoe which can augment the main therapies. If no spur stay away from surgery. If a bone spur still keep surgery at a distance(last resort). If you saw the podiatrist he probably got an x-ray which would reveal a bone spur.

Also, a good thick soled shoe. SAS is excellent, not pretty but great for people who have to be on their feet a lot during the day. This type of shoe can also help with low back discomfort due to standing/walking during the day.

Remember I've had this now for 2 years. I've tried EVERY OTC shoe insert at Wal-mart, Walgreens, and Big 5 Sporting (podiatrist said "the Tulie heel cup is what you want" but he was wrong). Podiatrist did give me a script for a custom insert with the warning "insurance may not pay for it" and he was right--$340 for a fricken shoe insert. But it does help more than any OTC thing has. I've tried Nike, Puma, Rebock, Addidas, New Balance, 3 kinds of $15 K-mart/Target/Walmart brands (oddly enough, the $15 K-Mart is among the most comfy), and some $250 running shoes a friend with the same affliction swears by (she was also wrong). I've done the stretching exercises suggested (podiatrist claimed "your calves are too strong--I can't do it, but if I cut your achilles tendon this would be healed in a week"). I ice my foot at night when I return if I've had to walk much at all and that does seem to help the next day.

Accupuncture and massage... Hmmm... Podiatrist did get an x-ray but I never got the results. He sent me packing with a "if the xray shows anything we'll call you, otherwise just assume it's fine--in my 15 years doing this I've only ever once seen something on an xray that mattered but since your insurance will pay for it I'll order it." S'pose I should call 'em and ask if there was a spur (doc's claim was "if there's a spur, it would be the effect of the malady, not the cause so it doesn't matter for your treatment whether I see one").

Hate to just keep blindly stabbing at ideas but it's been 4mo since the podiatrist visit and I'm absolutely no better so it feels like it's time to try some more.

If ice helps, try an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) at the same time.

Sounds like time to try another foot doc.

As above, time to change podiatrists. If it's a spur(assuming the pain is in the heel, if in the soles of the foot thats plantar fascitis and is treated differently). An injection in the spur can help, no matter if that's the relult of another imbalance. Push hard on your heel and you'll have an idea if the heel is inflamed but will not necessarily prove there's a spur.

Unfortunately chronic problems are harder to treat but massage will decrease muscle inflammation/spasm and can definitely help. Acupuncture is very good. also an Osteopath who does soft tissue work(most of the young ones have no idea) can help and even offer more aggressive therapy including injections. DO NOT HAVE YOUR ACHILLES TENDON CUT, YOU CAN'T GO BACK TO ZERO-IF ANYTHING IT IS THE COURT OF LAST RESORT.

See another physician(Osteopath/Orthopaedic) and he should be able to get the x-rays from the p[odiatrist. You could get the x-rays yourself but the physician route has the greasy wheel.

Acupuncture and massage will both call for frequent treatments and likewise osteopathic Manipulation.

If it were me, and I could afford it, I'd try the acupuncture/massage route with a backup of a manipulating Osteopath(hard to find, you have to ask).

Yes, I'd assume the x-ray was fine but another treating physician will most likely like to see them in any case.

Go to this site. This is a list of Osteopaths who are members of the American Academy of Osteopathy in Nevada. They are the Osteopaths who specialize in manipulation. Quite a few in Las Vegas.

Well, since this has become a mini rant thread, I'll swing at the Karaoke singers. You all suck. And I don't mean that in a good way. It's like Satan was bored and decided to torture as much of humanity as possible without actually killing them. The Japanese at least have the right idea...get so drunk you cannot walk and then grab the microphone. Importantly, make sure everyone who hears you is in the same condition. Apparently, in certain areas of our local Asian community it is also advisable to bring guns to Karaoke, but that's not something that would work well in Vegas.

The fatso motorized walker people need to be told that those devices were not invented so that someone with 200 pounds of excess blubber could toss down an extra pizza a day and still get around the casino floor. You do not have a disablity, you gigantic tub of goo, you eat too much and don't WALK enough.
