In a vacuum i don't play it this way, but by doing so occasionally, you make yourself much more difficult for him to play against.

People make this play on me all the time. I very rarely do it, might do it heads up but not at 6 max. But yeah you should get used to it, it happens plenty.

People will also make this play with like A5 on 9526 boards because they assume you have AT+, JT+

Danza I totally empathize, I have a problem where I don't think any good players are really that good. I tend to focus on things I see them do that I perceive as wrong and ignore things they do well and possibly better than me. It leads me to label all my opponents as "mediocre TAG" who are good winning players and "dumb LAG" when they are a bit laggy.

It sounds like you are realizing there is some merit to playing it as he did - getting looked up light because it looks a bit semibluffy plus the difficult time you have re-raising him without a monster.

The counter play is either to play in a way where you are checking behind the turn a bit more (I think this sucks personally because you play into most people's hands and then you wind up calling lots of river bets with ace high and getting value bet to death) or 3 betting the turn with a wider range against a player like this. This needs to include semibluffs of your own from time to time to make him make a big mistake. Obviously he will hesitate to make this play on you if you can 3 bet the turn and bet the river and have hands like KQs or JTs here.

It is not too bad at all. You are likely calling a flop c/r almost evertime on this board with this much money in the pot so a flop c/r does not do much to protect.

If the guy thinks you are betting the turn here with a large percentage of your range then his play is great. He gets his protection on the turn.

River is a standard value bet after you call the turn. He can probably fold to raise fairly easily on that river too.

this gets a ton of value from ace high, and hero is most likely folding to a river raise so I like it.

If you knew the villain will bet the turn, why would you ever choose to CR the flop instead of the turn?

Many people always fire two barrels, you can "know" this with a decent degree of certainty. If J9 is most likely folding to a river raise, that makes the counter play pretty simple against this type right: bluff raise many rivers. I'm not sure if he would fold or not for fear of this simple counter play.
