Default Live - Session Fee\'s and Buy-in Short Buy-in

I play a lot of poker online and occasionally go play live. My friend has invited me to go play with him this week at the casino by his house. There is 2 problems:

1. There is a 5 dollar session fee every half hour

2. There is a max. buy-in of $100 for the 1/2nl game and $200 for the 2/5nl game

I am worried that this is just a stupid waste of money to go and play at this casino, there is a casino further away like an extra 2hrs. that allows for 200 buy-in at the 1/2 and the rake every hand for $5 max.

So assuming the players are all donkey's what do i do. Is it worth playing at the 100max 1/2 table with the session fee? It just seems so -ev and is the 2/5nl any better? Help someone out that doesn't want to get ripped off.

I'm really not sure why you're bitching. Your choices are play or don't play, simple as that. Its been there before you go and it will be there still after you go or don't go. You're not getting 'ripped off'. 50 BB stacks just creates more action and encourages more rebuys. Adjust accordingly and profit or keep nitting it up online. Your choice.

Ummm. what??? Thanks for that advice really helpful. Do you play there cause you sure seems like i've offended you in someway. Which somewhat pleases me because you don't seem like a pleasant person to begin with. Maybe you just haven't watch your Dr. Phil today to help deal with your emotional swings. there there.

I don't want to start play professionally there, i just wanted to know how much i'm getting ripped off? I could very well be better to play some black jack. Well maybe not. But 5 dollars out of a 100 buy-in is 10% of your stack every hour, i can't really play tight when 10% is gone every hour now, so i'm going to have to gamble it up, i just want to know how bad or ev- it is for me to play there.

Raked Game---25 hands /hr=$125 from the table or $12.50/person.But all hands may not be maxed out so say$3.75/hand average=$93.75/hr=$9.75/person/hr. If you're tight you'll pay less.

Flat fee =$10/hr

It seems that each of the casinos will be fairly close so I'd opt for the $10/hr

The other problem is that if buy ins are $100 then 10% of the tables money is being taken away every hour. If tips are included then say another $25 about 12.5% of the tables money is lost each hour.

I'd think that the $200 2/5 game is more reasonable and this is considering that you'll get your share of wins and hold your own. That being said 40-50 BB games are a crap shoot so welcome to Party Poker revisited.

OOPs just noted the 2 hr casino allows $200 buy in at 1/2.Rake is an equivalent 5-6%. Better , but the question is: do you want to gamble? do you want to drive the extra 2 hours? How about drinking and the 2 hour drive back?

My choice is gamble. Of course you've thought about all of this. I'd opt for the $200 2/5 game if I were only considering the drop but the 1/2 may be wilder and better for profit.

I don't like the structure either. Annoying, especially for the $2-$5 table, to call a standard raise and have nearly 10% of your stack gone. But Carlo's points above are valid --- too much of the table's money is gone at the lower limit. I'd take the risk of crazy swings and the bingo-esque nature of 40-50 BB stacks and play the $2-$5, myself. (I'd also be way too lazy to drive the extra miles for the other casino)
