logician, the problem with 3-betting or capping small pairs OOP (or in position) is that you are always going to be 50/50 at best vs. his range. By making the pot huge, you make his drawing to overcards not only attractive, but correct. Also, you make it tougher for you to find folds, as even when the board might suck for your hand, you'll reason that he could be semibluffing and the pot is so big that you need to SD, etc. Having the initiative is good sometimes when you cap and he has 77 and the flop is like KQJ and he folds the best hand, but you screw yourself way more often imo.
