Call re-raises with small pocket pairs?
I raise preflop to 4bb with 66. Villain min-raises to 8bb. I call.
I raise preflop to 4bb with 66. Villain raises to 15bb. I don't call. Is there a mathematical limit how much of a reraise you can call with small pocket pairs to be still +EV? |

Re: Call re-raises with small pocket pairs?
If you are calling strictly for set value then you have to have implied odds. Not only does your opponent have to have enough money behind, he also has to be willing to call your bets when you hit your hand. Mathematically the break-even point for calling this is 8-1 implied odds.

I remeber a post by dbitel a long time ago where he mentioned that if you are calling strictly for set value you need more like 17-1. (I could be wrong, but i think that i got the jist of it right) |

Re: Call re-raises with small pocket pairs?
There are some good posts on implied odds (check search function). I personally use a 10x rule. Effective stacks must be 10x my opponents raise for me to call. As well, I factor in the likely hood that villian will stack off if I hit my set. It is a bit counter intuitive but IMHO you should be more inclined to call people who only 3 bet with the goods than calling light 3 betters because the tight player is more likely to stack off with their over pair. Position, of course, plays a big factor. If I have position I am more inclined to call because I may be able to play the hand to win unimproved.

Re: Call re-raises with small pocket pairs?
Everything you asked, depends on the stack size.
