I'm not that good at stud 8

So I probably shouldn't be playing this hand at all, and I don't know whether 4th is really bad or about right, or if I butchered the rest of this hand.

After I hit trips everything seemed automatic, and I feel like an idiot when I force myself into automatic situations, or at least I know I will play the same as an idiot.

This was in a HORSE game against players who have repeatedly shown a deep misunderstanding of stud games and well, poker in general. I'm afraid I joined them on this one.

My hand is too close to a Razz hand with the Four out and a couple of clubs gone, and I probably should have tossed it on Third. My thinking at the time was that these players aren't that great, and I could have value against two stubborn one-way high hands. I'll admit to being at a loss on 4th, even (especially) given my thinking on 3rd.

Given all that crap, it looks like I even compounded my error by failing to bet the river. Looking at this now I feel like a complete retard.

For what it's worth, I play it about the same, although I'd bet the river. I don't think the call on third is that bad assuming you play the later streets reasonably well. You weren't really looking to pair the Seven on fourth, but your immediate pot odds are 5.5:1 and your call closes the action. Once you hit trips, pound away.
