Default For those against the new Data policy from Pokerstars

I was just glancing through the thepokerdb.com website and found that the opt in/opt out process has started. Its only 3 cents to opt in, so I would strongly encourage it. If you opt in right now you also get 2-months worth of subscribed service.
Hope its ok for me to post this here. Anyways...gogogogo!

Could someone elaborate on this? I know a lot of sites (like thepokerdb and sharkscope) provides statistics on how well a player does over time ..... so pokerstars is making it so they need your permission?

First, wouldn't you need to opt for every single website (or opt-out)

Secondly, why would you care to opt for it? Ok you get 2 months free..... but the world gets free stats on your game-play.

Maybe I got this all wrong, bit confuse on what we are talking about here.

smartbugger- pokerstars recently implemented a new policy with all third party databases like OPR and pokerdb etc.
if a player does nothing- then no profitability data about them can be displayed. If they opt in- then the extra data can be displayed like it has been.
Players can also completely opt out. But they have essentially been able to block their data on some sites for some time now.
The biggest impact of the new policy is that the default will now be no profit data can be displayed without opting in.

That's what the talk is about.

Here is what Stars is telling us - After all sites have been given enough time (the cutoff date hasn't been announced) to offer the opt-in/opt-out functionality, Stars will be implementing functionality on their end that makes their client shut down if you visit a non-compliant website.

Thanks for the help here.

But I should point out that we actually send the 3 cents back after a few days, so it's actually free. Not like it matters too much, but wanted to point it out.

Nat,

Could you please comment on what the pokerdb plans to do with interest earned during that period?

Thanks,

Doug

It's more like what interest PokerStars will earn...

but I would donate it to the helpful people at Full Tilt.
