Is having a percentage in another tournament player cheating?
Hello,
Is having a percentage in another tournament player (in the same tournament) cheating? |

No. Happens a lot. But if it effects how you two might play if involved in a hand together, either heads up or with others, then there are some potential issues (chip dumping, soft playing, collusion to name a few). It creates a conflict of interest which makes it hard to act objectively.

The pros do it (having a percentage) all the time. What might surprise people is that Shawn Sheikan regularly has a piece of Mike Matusow.

When I was playing on a stake I would play tournies with him, but we both avoided cash games together. Tourney's we're not going to mess around too much and we're both "honorable men". In a cash game there is just too much chance of us making moves on each other that makes it look like collusion.

I know it happens a lot but that doesn't make it right.
But if it affect how you play against eachother for example when you check it out when HU only because of the percentage then it is cheating or do I see this wrong. |

Oh there is never any checking
I agree, in the 18 or so months I was staked we played together maybe twice in a "real" game. I don't think it's "honorable" however, in a tourney I think it rarely comes into play. Of course I have no doubt chip dumping occurs in WSOP events all the time. |
