190 horse power, wtf, Im pretty sure my moms old ford tauras station wagon got about 215. Under a ton or not, there are better buys.

Oy, you're completely missing the point of the car. It's built for handling, and still gets a sub 5 second 0-60 time. It'll give most cars out there a whipping and the few cars that outgun it won't be far ahead. (Unless you're comparing top speeds.)

HP is not the most important factor - check the stats (sub-5 second car)

and then compare it to a 911 (which is almost double the price) - exact same 0-60

No, I get the point of the car, you can drive somewhat fast around a track, and not have the tires spin out. Whoppdee do, I still have to put my gas in a plastic tub in the trunk.

I am planning on buying an Elise this summer (you can actually find allot of 05's with 5K miles on them for around 50K) - don't buy it in a gay color though

[/ QUOTE ]
The Elise is not $50k.

As far as I know, the Elise is the closest you'll get to a production, street legal track car. Not accomadating, not roomy, nor practical at all in any sense, but I'm damn sure the driving experience will be nigh unparalleled for the price range.

Sorry - you are wrong - 45K-50K

Sorry, you are wrong. Cited from the Kelly Blue Book website. http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ncop?...06LOE1_B;060201

Unless you really think the overpriced cars on Autotrader are a real authority on pricing.

What does the gas tank placement have to do with anything? It's not a matter of being "somewhat" fast around a track, it's a matter of being ridiculously fast around a track. (Motor Trend posted 1.0g on the 200' skidpad.) Not to mention the car still gets in excess of 30mpg.

Are you seriously suggesting that the amount of horsepower a car has determines the quality of the purchase?

To the OP: You won't have more fun in a car for under 50 grand than a lotus. As long as you understand what you're getting into (a track car) you will not be disappointed.
