lost audio

This has happened before and on my laptop as well so it has to be simple. I have a Dell with soundblaster 24 and 2 standard external speakers. I also have a logitech USB headset that I use for skype and today to talk on a video I made.

Now when I disconnect my headset I have no audio through my external speakers. Restart did nada. Thoughts please?

Try going to control panel -->sounds and audio --> audio tab and try changing the default sound device. I have a USB telbox thing for skype and it is pretty much considered a 'sound card' and therefore ends up being my default device sometimes.

When I look it says USB headset when it is plugged in and soundblaster live when it is not. just when the headset is not plugged there is no sound.

hmm well that was my best effort. All I can recommend at this point is the standard check the jack line though I would guess this is related to the headset. Hopefully some other posters can offer suggestions, gl.

Do you get sound in the headphones when you plug them back in? maybe you have to Safely Remove the device before you just yank it out of the USB.

Or, if you have no sound at all in headphones or speakers go into device manager. (Right click on My Computer go to Properties then the Hardware Tab and the Device Manager button)

In the device manager find your sound card under Sound Video and Game Controllers. Right click your sound card and choose Uninstall.

Then reboot and let Windows reinstall the drivers, or you can manually install them yourself after the reboot.

Then most likely you will have to reboot again after you install the drivers.
