he could have been slowplaying jacks, or calling down with a flush draw... i would fold too.

looks like a fold, not much u beat here. With some sort of non slowplaying hand he should have put a raise in there, on the flop or turn, so its either flush draw that did hit or some trips or better.

Your only hope here is that he's bluffing, if that's the case and I don't have a really good read and it's a big near PSB on a scary board, calling is -EV.

I'd check the turn he either has a J or a flushdraw and I'd rather keep the pot small

I think it's more profitable to bet, albeit only slightly more. Having a J is not very likely. There are few FDs that just paired the Q, lots of FDs still out there, and PPs that may pay off again (unlikely), but that don't pay off much anyway unless they fill up on the river.

A lag might CR AI a FD on the turn, he will also likely bet into you on the river if you check the turn.

I dont really want to build the pot up so much that his odds for a bluff are good.

You don't really have to worry about a bluff here. Villains that are OOP don't bluff much when Hero shows strength on every street. Checking the turn is more likely to induce a bluff, actually. If Villain is a big bluffer, then this might be the better line. For the more straightforward Villains though, I prefer to bet that turn.
