Default Pick me a TV

Yeah, we've had a lot of these threads, but there are too many new models out.

I want a flattish tv to sit on a mantle. We'll be viewing from 8 feet away and from multiple angles. What should we get? What brand? High-end is fine, but status symbols mean nothing to me. I want something real for my money, not "bass reflex" or monster cables or some other gimmick crap. No Dominator 2000 speakers please. A rock-solid reliable $2K TV would be fine.

Thanks in advance. Oh and mods if I was just to lazy to search, I hope you're too lazy to lock this thread.

Matt

Absolutely LOVED our Samsung DLP 46" tv that the Ex and I had. Could see from any angle.

you want a plasma...lcds have angle issues, plasmas don't

there is one for 500 at best buy today if you follow my thread in this forum

as for cables, go to www.monoprice.com for all of your cables...as good/better than monster but 1/10th the price

QFT

Also, this TV here is usually on sale for around 1800 give or take a few bucks with free shipping. I have the 50" and its sweet.

From what I have read over at avsforum.com you dont see a huge difference in 1080p until you hit 56" FWIW.

Edited to add that I just saw this was for a mantle, which probably gets rid of DLPs. I agree with Nicholas about the Plasma then but if you do go DLP (or can fit it) the above TV is solid.
