I fold all pocket pairs in any position when facing a raise. So hard to make flushes and straights with hands like KK.

these are my high PP's so far this month - i need a very good reason to fold any of them pre flop

I think that's the point of shoving turn, you can win it on the turn or when you hit on the river. If you check behind on the turn, who knows what is a safe card if villain was still drawing.

Vs. a tricky player, particularly one whom you're not really targetting, I'd take the free card.

I think he could easily have the wrap here, although lots of other possibilities certainly.

I agree fully. QQ-AA have been consistently profitable for me not worrying at all about side-cards. I am surprized that you have JJ and TT in such good shape. FR, I had JJ at -.01 ptbb for a short while but changed that by worrying a bit about side-cards OOP. For me, the side-cards to TT are just always very good.

Anyhow, I think it's HORRIBLY nitty to lay down this AA, which is in all probability ahead PF. I don't see how those who lay it down get a VPIP of more than something like 12% unless they're playing significantly worse 3-card wraps.

thanks for the repiles, this is how it played out. the reason for my check was mainly down to how villan and i had stayed out of each others way during the session - my thinking was if he had 2 pair/trips he would have committed either way on the flop, especially OOP. this meant i could only put him on some kind of draw, and 789T would fit very well with him popping out of the blinds, which hasnt really been his style. I really dont like putting players on exact hands but given the action i really cant see too many other holdings

the 2 on the river is a total brick and he instantly shoved, so he either has the straight or air, as i dont see a set/2pair taking this line at this point.

But you shouldn't raise preflop anyway since any four cards can win.

[/ QUOTE ]

I hope you're not saying that you should ALWAYS call or fold pre-flop. Some hands, you do need to raise for value or when you're in position.

Tell me, if AAxx isn't a good hand preflop, then what is?

[/ QUOTE ]

I strongly believe that there's a whole lot more to playing Omaha than just hand selection. Just because a hand is good doesn't mean you play it because your position is rather important. That doesn't mean you should NEVER play AAxx in early position, but there's more to what happens pre-flop

In a loose game with 100BB stacks where most hands are getting to showdown, position counts for a whole hell of a lot less than the author of that article thinks.
