Joe G is known as a tom coughlin, military type, tough love my way or the highway type of coach. I'm sure that will go over awesome on the Yankees..especially since he used to play with many of the players

[/ QUOTE ]

This is all based on one season where Girardi -- a first year mangage -- had to establish himself as the leader over a minor league team -- with an average age below the drinking age -- forced by necessity to play in the majors.

Would he be as overbearing when dealing with a far more veteran team? Who knows. He certainly not the fatherly figure that Torre is -- or the talented and loveable loser that Mattingly is.

A source tells ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney that it "is a good bet" that the Yankees will name the team's next manager on Friday -- the off day between World Series Games 2 and 3. Teams aren't allowed to announce moves during the World Series, but the Yankees could ask commissioner Bud Selig for permission.

so, espn is reporting that arod opted out. i don't know if it's official with the league office yet, but it appears that boras says they are opting out without even talking to cashman. i guess they'll file it on the last day.

btw, the reason is [censored].

[ QUOTE ]
"Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do," Boras said. "He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were doing."

[/ QUOTE ]

so, by no means, don't wait and try to find out what they are going to do. commit yourself to opting out right now.

someone explain miguel cabrera's contract to me...?

this will be bad for the next year or two, but beyond that I think it might be a +EV decision... or atleast not horribly -EV

edit- "this" referring to Arod opting out

Girardi was probably talked to in depth about pitch counts for these young arms... correct?

Looks like Girardi is has been offered the job, somewhere in the range of $2 million/year for 3 years.

he has 2 years or arbitration eligibility then a FA in 2010. I don't know what his arb figure will be this year or how Fla intends to deal with it.

I figure they'll demand a [censored] load from anyone who wants him, naturally.
