Default Best SNL music performance of all-time

How ya'll like that?

It's a great song, but flav just goes off.

Other nominations off the top of my head are Elvis Costello, The Specials, Nirvana and The Pogues.

Others?

Tuco.

Sinead O'Connor ripping that pic of the pope. Probably doesn't qualify as 'best' but certainly is up there as momorable.

The Replacements were pretty awesome too.

Patti Smith doing Gloria is way way up there. Great great performance.

a couple not so well ones that blew me away back when I first saw them. I'm pretty sure both of these were SNL:

Adam Ant performing Strip
Dream Academy doing Life in a Northern Town

Prince was sick when he was on a couple years ago, I'll try to find a video.

I am no fan of his and the song was pretty blasphemous, but for some reason when I saw P Diddy perform "Come With Me" from the Godzilla soundtrack with Jimmy Page on the guitar and a full orchestra behind them, I was pretty impressed. It was quite intense, but I'm a sucker for a symphonic backing.

If anyone could find a video of that performance, I'd be grateful... I've searched for it a bunch and have never found it.

Idioteque from Radiohead was also outstanding, but that song kicks ass live no matter where it is performed.

Edit: Ahhh... someone recently added the P Diddy performance to YouTube... here ya go. I realize it wasn't necessarily a full orchestra either, but whatever. The strings still sound pretty good.

"Come With Me" featuring Jimmy Page from SNL

Huh? I can't think of a major music act in the past 20 years that hasn't appeared on SNL.

Damnit Patton, you edited your post just when I made mine. Are you still grateful?

I like how at the end Diddy does the "we're not worthy" bow to Jimmy, at least he knows the legend that is Jimmy Page.
