Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
I didn't even love the movie, but the end of Requiem for a Dream just gutted me.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
Can't pick just one...
* From my favorite movie, the final scene of "Y Tu Mama Tambein." They go from being two great friends to mere acquaintances over the events of the film. The narrator's last line is what gets me. "They will never meet each other again." * The entire running time of "United 93." * The end of "Kids" where nothing is better. * Surprisingly, the first season of "Nip/Tuck" when Megan O'Hara kills herself after her cancer comes back. * And yeah, "My Dog Skip" made me cry when I first saw it in elementary school. A few that were already mentioned that definitely got me: * End of Requiem for a Dream * End of American History X * End of Big Fish (definitely cried a bit there). * Lennie in "Of Mice And Men," though I haven't seen a film version. |

For those who haven't seen it, the look on Chaplin's face at the end of City Lights when the formerly blind girl realizes her benefactor was The Tramp. The single most memorable shot in cinema, including everything.

including everything. [/ QUOTE ] Including everything in the film and including everything in cinema history. BTW, the scene where the Tramp first meets the blind girl "required" over three hundred takes. |

Yes, I've heard that; was it that Chaplin couldn't figure out how to make her aware of the "fact" that he was rich?

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film
I think he had the concept from the beginning, but the scene just didn't work right. He was a bit of a fanatic. He fought so much with the Virginia Cherril (sp.?) that he fired her with a week of shooting to go but then rehired her when he decided refilming with another actor would take too long.

Nice when you own the whole shebang and have that luxury, huh?
I think I'm the only one who actually liked Attenborough's Chaplin. Great performance by Downey, IMO. |
