i don't think sb has a huge crime rate or anything so i'm interested to know how often cops get to even get into these situations to fire their guns.

SB is one of the only two cities that has had the distinction of being placed under martial law in a non wartime situation.

link? story? something??

[/ QUOTE ]

Best i could do. The legend when i went to school there was that martial law was declared. Looks like an exaggeration.

"Police don't fire warning shots. Police shoot...to eliminate the threat."

this doesnt make sense.

im not an american but in sweden the cops do in fact shoot warning shots.

[/ QUOTE ]

This makes perfect sense. If a man has a gun on him, and the police officer is busy firing shots up in the air,
A) He may construe those shots as being fired at him, and return fire

B) It's alot easier to shoot someone who is aiming at the air than at you.

C) Shots fired into the air don't just disappear, they have to land somewhere eventually, and can be deadly.

Police in the U.S. have to account for every bullet they fire, firing them in situations that don't require deadly force is not permitted.

What situations in Sweden are warning shots permissable?

[/ QUOTE ]

i agree that in this situation its not a good idea to fire off warning shots, i was under the impression that we were discussing general gun situations.

i recall at least one case where a cop fired a warning shot during a soccer game when a huge fight broke out on the grandstand.

Default update

so apparently it all started when the guy and his wife and his buddies are walking down state street. then another group of black guys make inappropriate remarks about his wife. they get into it and yada yada yada.

so in the scuffle, the man (last name Tucker) pulls out a .45 calibur and two of the cops after warning "gun gun gun" and afraid Tucker will open fire, shoots and kills him. later on in the investigation they search his buddies' car and find guns there too.

apparently these guys were in the Navy also.

anyways, the two cops as of now are on leave, which i assume is standard procedure after these incidents.
