Raising Pocket Pairs...what to do when re-raised?
This is the situation I run into the most...that I feel the most uncomfortable with.
I raise pocket pairs from everywhere...but am at a bit of a loss as to what to do when re-raised. I play NL50, and make it $2, then it comes back to me for $5.5-$7. So, the questions. Do I only call if they have at least 100bb? Throw it away to almost all shortstacks (obviously not the maniac shorties)? Should I call more when they are tight, and more than likely holding AA/KK and will have trouble getting away from it? Should I call more when they are loose, and could have a wide range...even some hands that I'm a slight favorite against? Or...do I just almost always fold unless we are both very deep? Hard to imagine this is best. I'd appreciate any advice on what you use to help you make your decisions in these situations. |

These should all factor into the decision..
The biggest thing is obviously implied odds. Are you going to get a whole stack if you hit? If they raise small, tend to call more. If they have a big stack, tend to call more. If they play bad and stack off easily, tend to call more. This is a very specific question that needs specific details. |

Alright...so are you guys calling re-raises against just about everyone if they are 100bb deep?

At 50nl? If they raise a standard or low amount, yes.

I don't have any set rules [/ QUOTE ] I'm not really looking for set rules...just what's the thought process. Generally, I've just been folding. But, that's mostly because I don't know what criteria makes it good to call. |

If they minraise it and I think they have a big hand and they have a stack I almost always call, if they make it 3x my bet Im likely to just fold unless I KNOW that they have a big pair as to make it profitable I have to stack them almost 100% of the time. When in dought just fold.

Re: Raising Pocket Pairs...what to do when re-raised?
generally fold
but its purely a question of implied odds and their range. If they are 3betting you from 8 dollars to 28 dollars the only way you can call is: 1. If stacks are deep (e.g. 200+ bb) 2. If you feel that they are 3betting with a very wide range. In this case, you are calling because you plan on pushing them off a marginal hand on the flop. Its generally not a good idea to call in this case unless you have position, and you play very well postflop. |
