Default Setting up VPN on Ubuntu

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection in Ubuntu to my office network, but can't seem to get it to work. I followed the instructions on this page:

http://kutuma.blogspot.com/2007/05/vpn-in-ubuntu.html

but once I sudo pon my connection, it doesnt seem to change anything. The only noticable change is that i can no longer ping something like www.google.com (can't locate the dns entry or something) but right when i poff the vpn connection, it works. Internet is working fine no matter if its on or off, but i can't connect to my works intranet when its on.

Thanks!

Well I'll be setting up a VPN shortly myself so I was looking at documentation on how to do it. Anyway, Ubuntu has their own documentation on setting one up here . Before following that I recommend removing the 3rd party package that the other howto had you install 'apt-get remove pptpconfig'.
