Default Nuclear Power back in business

Chicago Tribune

For the first time in 30 years, an application has been filed to build a nuclear power plant in the US. This is a result of the Administration's efforts to loosen regulations on the nuclear industry and his continued support of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump.

This is one area where I appreciate the Administration's efforts. Nuclear power is the only power generating technology we have that is competitive on price and environmentally friendly. While wind power will likely make up an increasing portion of our power output, the technology isn't to the point where it can replace coal or nuclear without subsidies. Coal on the other hand is terrible for pollution, being a primary emitter of CO2, Mercury and Sulfur Dioxide. This is another area the French have us beat: they get most of their power from nuclear plants and they do it efficiently.

"Using this unique combination in an organic solar cell recipe can enhance the efficiency of future painted-on solar cells," said Mitra. "Someday, I hope to see this process become an inexpensive energy alternative for households around the world."

"Fullerene single wall carbon nanotube complex for polymer bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells," published June 21, 2007 in the Journal of Materials Chemistry by the Royal Society of Chemistry, details the process.

I agree 100%. With nuclear power you can have your cake and eat it too. It's cheap, it's efficient, it's green, and it's renewable!
