I went to some SCA events, a long time ago.

It can be fun if you're in the right mood. Whether you treat it like a bad movie that's so bad it's fun or if you can get into it and just have a goofy good time.

There's way more socially awkward geeks than hot chicks in bodices. However, there ARE hot chicks in bodices. Which you don't otherwise get to see very often.

I had a roommate once who was into these things, and the bustiers and low cut blouses she would sew for herself for these things were absolutely ridiculous.

The kink factor must be extremely high for most participants in Ren fairs.

bernie did you go to Camlann? I recommend doing the "feast" - particularly what they serve during the "Festival for May". That place is cool because the dude is more or less building a permanent medieval village out there.

Last year I think it was they finally had jousting. I couldn't wait to see some jousting carnage but OMFG it was the lamest jousting I could have imagined. Bunch of guys with glorified broomsticks poking each other's shields while they trot past. I wanted to see someone unhorsed or something but alas it was pretty weak.

What I don't understand is this: in medieval times, was everybody REALLY friendly and did they talk REALLY loud?

I heard about Camlann. That's where I was initially thinking of taking her this year. I heard the feast there was pretty good. But not sure there's really as much to do there as there is at the Ren Faire.

It woulda kinda irked me if I had to pay to see guys joust with broomsticks.

i've never been to a ren faire but i would imagine they are a little more fun than camlann. Yes the feast is very good. I have done it 3 or 4 times.
