things have the capacity to suffer. i dislike suffering. if i were at the complete mercy of a more powerful being who could torture and kill me, i would prefer he did not. golden rule situation.

Only if you presuppose that for one to be consistent, they cannot be against large, intense suffering while at the same time believing that smaller amounts of suffering are OK.

Excellent point, however there is a flaw when comparing murder to cannibalism.

Cannibalism is a 2 step process (in most cases). First, you're going to have to kill them, then eat them.

To eat a human would require you to not have an alternative. This is not the case here, we have plenty of alternatives to get meat.

Murdering a dog for [censored] and giggles has an alternative. The alternative is to NOT do it.
