Default WinRAR Software

I'm trying to apply a patch to update some software and it requires WinRAR software. The problem is the WinRAR software opens the zip file just fine. Then I run the patch, things seem cool, but the software NEVER gets updated.....

Could this be because I have not bought a WinRAR license? If this was the case, I would expect to get a message saying I need buy a license but it says nothing. Any sugestions what I need to do to apply this patches? Based on the lack of messages, I'm not sure if buying a license will solve my problem...

This has nothing to do with winrar if the file gets unziped fine. What software are you trying to update and how do you know that it didn't get updated?
I use winrar myself, but a better freeware option is 7zip. www.7-zip.org/

I'm trying to update a computer game....unsuccessfully.
The WinRAR software lets you use it for 40 days free then you are suppose to buy a liscense. I have applied patches to software before but I'm striking out here....

I love WinRAR, and FWIW, you never have to register it - it will work forever ... umm, at least in my experience.

I would aim more at making sure you are updating it correctly. Look at the software's documentation. Some products want you to uninstall it first, then install the updated version. Some don't. I would say that is probably where your problem is.
