Badugi 101 Article, August Issue

Hi Guys,

About 6 months ago, I heard Greg Raymer make reference to playing $400-$800 BOT (Badugi, Omaha 8, Triple Draw), and I thought, "Badugi?" Since then I've heard more and more references to the game, and I think this month's (a follow-up to David's observations on the game last issue) by Flynn/Roh is both timely and a great read.

Very catchy opening hook about the game (and Matt, if you're up for $200-$400+ with 0 hands played, then you my friend have cajones) -- and some excellent strategy advice and relevant statistics.

Have others also found the game to be filled with such weak opposition at high stakes?

I also liked this article quite a bit. It was a very good introduction in that it both outlined some basic strategy concepts and framed the game in an exciting way.

My experience with high and nosebleed stakes games (almost all from the rail I admit) has been that players are willing to throw around a lot of $$$$ at lowball games without much of a clue of how to play them well, since they believe no one else plays them well either and it's essentially like playing casino "war" for $100/card. Seems to me that the opportune high stakes players are the ones who learn how to master the lowball and other oddball games and always seem to "get lucky" when that rotation comes around.

Could someone direct me to some article/link for complete badugi noobs(aka - wtf is a badugi, how does betting/blinds/structure go, etc). I know absolutely nothing about this game and would like to know more. I havnet found much on the search.

The betting structure is identical to that of Hold'em or triple draw lowball.
