A lot of people think this, it's called the "build a better mousetrap and they will beat a path to your door."

Works well when demand overwhelms supply. For example, you wouldn't need much marketing if you were selling the sharpest quad razor blades in London. In 1800.

One of the best parts of selling things is viewing your customers as suckers while making them feel special..wtf.

Part of your problem is that you want to sell crap, tough to be invested in a product you think is crap and not feel dirty.
