Default giorgio armani leather jacket, FREE... was this legit?

So I'm walking home from work today and I'm waiting at a light, when I see this dude waving at me from the other side of the street. So after the light changes, I go over there to see what's up. I'm thinking directions or something, so i'm like, OK I'll help you guys out. First he asks me whether I know italian, which I don't, so I thought I was in trouble, but his English was pretty good and then he starts going off on this crazy spiel (in his italian accent):

"hello, do you know giorgio armani, dolce gabanna, some other fashion designer, etc?"

"yes" - I'm thinking - ok, this guy wants to go shopping, so I'm thinking 5th avenue near midtown, but then he continues,

"hello, i am a model from italy, and I was here for fashion week (i looked it up: fashion week was from 9/8-9/15) and I have all these samples from giorgio armani which I do not have time to give back b/c I have to catch a flight. I cannot pay the customs on these pieces of clothing so as a gift, I would like to give them to you"... FREE, no strings attached!

Now, there were two of them in the car. Pretty nice ride, good looking, well dressed. They definitely could have been models. As soon as he says he wants to give me this stuff for free, my reaction is that this reeks of mad shadiness. As much as I want to have a free leather jacket, this deal just seems too good to be true... The guy keeps insisting it's legit, and pulls out some card from his wallet that says "model" on the front...lol. So I ask him,

"why not just throw it in the trash?"

"just throw it in the trash?" he asks incredulously... "this is a $2000 jacket!"

"same difference to you, right? either way you lose the jacket... why give it to me? Looks very suspicious from my perspective"

And at that point, I just walk away. The only reason I can see this being legit is b/c he's one of those really fashionable people that he just can't see this armani jacket going to waste and wanted to give it to someone that seems slightly well dressed (which I guess I was? I was just basically in my work clothes), but that seems a stretch. So what you say OOT? Should I have taken the jacket or not?

p.s. No poll, b/c last time I made a poll I was banned from ALL of 2p2 for being a polltard.

It was a knockoff, and it wasn't really going to be free. As soon as you say "ok, sure!" he says, "OK, what'll you give me for it?" You say "I though it was free" and he says "C'mon, it's a $2000 jacket, give me $100 for it."

There's always the chance that the jacket is laced with some Italian strand of Anthrax, but I'd take it. Armani makes pretty nice jackets. I'd probably pay the $100 too.

The whole outright asking him his motivations thing is pretty funny

These guys are all over different cities but I've never heard the "completely free" line before. I'm positive its the same guys though and will try to scam you once you seem interested.

I think these guys went to the same school as the white van's selling speakers
