Default Re: Ask me anything about Japan/Japanese

Which religions are the most prevalent in Japan?

How do the Japanese view highly religious people?

What do the Japanese think about the religiosity in the United States?

What percentage of the population accepts Evolution as fact?

How large is the Atheist/Agnostic/Non-religious population in Japan?

And one last question, if you're knowledgeable in the Japanese music scene, what famous artists/bands should I check out in categories such as pop, rock, metal, dance/electronic etc.? (I'm primarily interested in music with the lyrics in Japanese.)

Thanks so much.

The Japanese used to refer to Koreans pejoratively as the "garlic eaters."

[/ QUOTE ]

not true. we call them kimchi eaters

You're Japanese? Why did I think you're a big white dude from like MN? Must be the running saw thing...

"Chon" is a pejorative term for Koreans. I'm sure there are others the Japanese came up with.

How often is sushi/sashimi eaten by a typical japanese person?
How about some descriptions and pictures of authentic japanese food that we probably don't know much about?

This might take a bit more work to answer but I think people would enjoy it

I had okonomiyaki for the first time back in July.

It's delicious and cheap.

I've been craving yakitori for the past few weeks and have eaten it at least once a week. Not sure how well-known yakitori is here in the States, but there are a few places that specialize in it all along St. Marks place in NYC. So good to eat when you get the munchies after drinking.

Also another delicious thing that we Japanese eat is Oden, commonly eaten in the winter months.

What makes fish sushi grade?

[/ QUOTE ]
The more fresh the sushi, the more expensive they get, or are you asking why different types of fish have different price? I think those fish that are hard to get/prepare are more expensive, but I could be wrong here.

They are minority but won't be discriminated or anything, unless you're into one of those cult religions.

They don't think much about it.

The funny thing is, although everyone knows that Sushi is Japanese food, we rarely eat them at home, maybe at some special occasion. But there are a lot of Sushi restaurants. We eat there more often than at home. Some can be very expensive, but" Kaiten Sushi" is relatively cheap.
