Vyse,

"Ah, so I have no choice -- I have to become a minion and go along with what everyone else does, right?"

Actually, yes. By not going along with societal standards, you are, surprisingly enough, being anti-social.

this is retarded. you won't complain when the total is $16 and i still leave 20. it evens out. and yes, i'm plenty experienced in the tipping/service industry.

ps, LOL at whoever said that servers at [censored] chains make close to $20 an hour. not nearly that much.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not complaining either way. Just saying that generally you want tip $1 a drink, regardless of the drink. Also, please let me know how I can get into the tipping industry--that sounds sweet.

Ok, I'm now officially embarrassed by how much I've posted in this thread, and am going to stop.

you are a nit for even wanting anything back from a 20 when you have a 15 dollar meal. unless the waiter is atrocious or abnormally rude, which is very rare, i tip well... do you really want 2.50 back anyway? wtf are you going to do with 2.50. its worth leaving the extra tip simply to be able to get up and leave right on the spot.

You're retarded if you expect people to tip 33% on a freaking $15 meal. What do you mean, "what are you going to do with $2.50?"? If you are 25 years old and you invest that $2.50 at 10% per year, it becomes ~$160 by age 67.

Grab a pack of gum, pay a toll, and get a soda.

Why does the waitress need 2.50? What's she gonna do with it?

There have probably been 250+ tipping threads in the 2.5 years I've been here, and this has been the only only that hasn't sucked. A+ Boris.
