You definitely want to be on the strip and not stuck downtown or some offstrip place where you have to drive or cab everywhere. Casino Royale is a great choice for cheap gambling and cheap booze. Also it's close to everything including all of the big poker rooms (Venetian, Wynn, Mirage, Bellagio)
I think you made a very good choice!

Don't forget the Super 8 on Koval. Average Price: $54.00.
Right behind Bally's, it's one block to the strip and right next door to the some of the cheapest eats in Vegas: Ellis Island Casino - $6 steak and egg beakfast. $5 bbq dinner includes 1/2 chicken, 1/2 slab and 3 sides. Also has cheap table games.
