Based on the taste of #2, recipe 1 seemed like way too much lemon juice, and too little grenadine.

I went with about a 5:1:1 ratio, and it came out too sweet. I added another 1 part applejack and it's good to go. Maybe a little too tart, but I like it. You can tune down the lemon juice a tad if you like.

So, as far as I can tell, the definitive recipe for this should be:

Chill glass
6 parts applejack
1 part grenadine
1 part lemon juice
Shake with ice
Strain into glass

Huh. I have yet another recipe for a Jack Rose. It calls for 4 pts apple jack, 2 pts LIME juice, and 1 pt grenadine. If you give it a shot, I'd be curious. I'd make it myself, but I don't own any applejack.

Based on previous tastings I would imagine that would be very very sour, but maybe the less applejack and more grenadine would balance it somehow.

Just finished taking GMAT (770 ftw) so I will try many different proportions tonight and report back.

Jamesons on the rocks. I find that especially lately whenever I order a drink it's heavy on the sweeteners. If I know the bartenders are decent and it's a resturant I might risk a mojito cause they're yummy

My main beverage is beer, and Im not real picky on it.

At the bar I work at, which is known for its overpowering cocktails, I get a Tom Collins, usually hits the spot.

At other bars its typically beer, occusionally a Rum and Coke.

For the record I make really good appletinis.

2 parts apple vodka, 2 parts apple pucker, 1 part sour mix, splash of Grand Mariner (triple sec will work if needed)

The most complicated drink I order is a manhattan.

Last night at my regular bar the bartender asked me how to make a Manhattan...I was clueless. T

If a bartender does not know how to make a Manhattan then they should not be allowed to call themselves a Bartender. This is terrible. I mean its not like we are even talking about an old Fashioned which is something all bartenders should know how to make as well.

I don't drink, but I like the idea of buying one of my friends a melontini. Thank you for the idea thread.
