Not tilting/A game versus Knowledge/Skill

I've seen so may 'big name' 2+2's going busto or having incredible downswings lately. In everyone's opinion, how much does the former, compared to the latter have do with long run +EV? I mean, are a lot of players we see playing high stakes, running very well and very bad (mostly taking shots), in all likelihood, going to be in an out of busto for the rest of their lives?
