Default Ethical Question

A poker site made a mistake and put too much money in my e-wallet. Today is a month since the mistake and they have not e-maild me to ask for it. I want to take the money but I feel guilty. What would you do?

Eventually the mistake will be discovered and at the very least you will be required to return the ill gotten funds. With that being said, return the funds now and you will sleep better at night with nothing hanging over your head.

Why would anybody think it was OK to keep money that did not belong to them?

Depends on the amount of money ... wasn't there a guy that got 1 million by mistake ... if I return 1 million I will sleep like a fool instead of sleep well. If it's small amount of money thou - doesn't matter. I'll rather throw a joke or two at support.

yea, 1.000.000 is too much money. I would withdraw and change my name

But if it's something like tens or hundred dollars, tell the support. One day they will find it anyway.
And if they aren't cheap-steaks they give you some token or hat or something. Not mentioning when you want something "special" (like 100% cash instead of items or faster cash-out or not sending ID copy or whatever).

So unless it's a million let the support know by yourself.

I've returned money that was given to me by mistake at an underground. If a teller makes a mistake be it at the bank or at a store I always correct them. I don't want them to be responsible for someone's till not balancing.

I'm not sure how I feel about a site. I think my answer depends on the site. I'd vote for keeping it from Absolute in a second.

I'd also need to know if you could pay the funds back should they notice eventually?

Normally I'd agree with you but I've started to think that if companies choose to be incompetent then they deserve to feel the pain of their mistakes. I had a bookie years ago who would often forget to update NCAA time changes. At least twice he was still taking action after the game was past the half. I liked the game already but when I realized my team was winning by a lot I added more to the bet. I see this as similar. I guess that is why the site would be important to me. If they were a professional site that made this one mistake then I'd return it. If they were constantly incompetent then I'd keep it.

it's too much for them to omit when there's a next audit.
it's too small for you to change your name (I think).

I would let the site know but it depends how much you like them.
Anyway leave there enough for them. They'll initiate a charge-back sooner or later and you won't get in trouble if it's cleared quickly and easy.

Is this a joke? Take the money and deposit into another pokersite so there is no way they can take the money back. Why are you even thinking twice? Do you think they wouldn't take 6k from you if they thought they could get away with it? Congrats on your win.

I fail to see how the amount changes anything. Its like saying I can take $20 from someone and its no big deal, but if it was 2k that's wrong. Makes me wonder what all these saints who talk about karma would do If they really found a life changing amount of money. Probably take it and run, but that's OK because they would give back the $200 if they found a missing wallet.

OP its your choice, do what you think is right.
