Default China/US Soccer Match

About to start on ESPN2.

The squad will be almost entirely European league talent since the MLS players are still with their teams for one more week. The two exceptions are Chivas players Ante Razov and Brad Guzan who are playing as Chivas is off this week. This means that the forward position is going to be pretty weak, and the midfield a little depleted as well. It will be nice to see the 2 young central mids though.

I'll be going back and forth between this game, NBA playoffs, and RBNY/KC on mlslive.tv, which should've been the FSC game this week since it ought to be amazing, but I'm sure they chose the late game b/c of the national team match.

Is there any reason to care about a friendly? (They have about the same importance an pre-season NFL games. right?)

Gold Cup competition starts on Tuesday, so they need to be ready. Usually you'd be correct though, and one could argue you are here as well. Especially with so many players missing.

Right. It's just that MLS teams didn't want to release players for 4 weeks when they already are for 3.

Gold Cup roster is:

Goalkeepers - Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton FC), Kasey Keller (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

Defenders - Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution), Frank Simek (Sheffield Wednesday), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)

Midfielders - DaMarcus Beasley (PSV Eindhoven), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Benny Feilhaber (Hamburger SV), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Steve Ralston (New England Revolution)

Forwards - Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Taylor Twellman (New England Revolution)

Adu just turned 18 today and hasn't impressed enough to warrant international play (but looked better in the draw v NE that just ended).

Reyna is like 52 and perma-hurt. Plus he retired from international play a la Eddie Pope IIRC.
