A hand vs. a friend
NOTE: I enjoy playing against friends (as they realize it's nothing personal when either of us wins and they appreciate the good competition) However this day both my friend and I are running bad, not sure if that influences whether or not we are looking for easy spots to raise each other's big blinds.
So Borg 20/40 a while back. Friend opens in LMP, sb is a decent pro who tends to pick on my friend and calls his raises lightly, more than likely counting on his ability to play post flop. I 3-bet A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in the big. Both call. Flop K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]10[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I bet and only my friend calls and shoots me a look. Turn 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, he bets, I call. River 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I bet, he raises, I call. I think this hand is interesting as all streets are up for debate. Questions that arise: 1) 3-bet preflop is obviously debatable and I have my reasons but would like to hear others advice. 2) Turn check is also debatable. 3) As is river bet/call line. 4) What does my friend have? |

Re: A hand vs. a friend
PF is fine as I assume you know his range well in this spot
Turn check is fine IMO. Yes you give a FC to a GS but the [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] are tainted and you're holding others so he is drawing slim and obviously he is never fold the A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] On the river I think you're cooked to the A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]/TT I'm assuming he would have capped KK 3 handed and TT in position only you would know better. The only way you're good here is if your friend is making a move against you being it's a "he knows, that I know, that he knows, yada yada thing |

Re: A hand vs. a friend
hahaha nevermind. I was going to say "Everything" but then I looked closer and realized the board was monotone. This skin I use makes the suits hard to read sometimes. =\

Re: A hand vs. a friend
In my humble opinion:
Preflop: 3-bet>call because you have an equity edge given you are in the middle of your friend's range, but way ahead of the SB's range given your read. Flop: standard, no reason to think anyone else has the A of diamond yet. Turn: maybe a bet, if you can get a better hand to fold - like 77-99 with no diamond, or T9s/JTs/QTs (no diamond). But i don't generally think you can get a better hand to fold, and you really don't like getting raised, so check/call seems fine. River: Good. I think you have to bet, and i think you can't fold, so bet/call. No idea what he has. He could have an A of diamonds, if so, so be it. He could have a hand that hit the flop hard that he was going to wait to raise the turn like TT, KK or 33. And he could have a hand that he was going to call down with, that doesn't have a diamond, and he's running bad, so he's spewing. |

Re: A hand vs. a friend
Would he call flop with 66-99 no diamond? Would he fold those or maybe even a T with no diamond on the turn? If he would then I'd bet turn but otherwise I would do what you did. I would c/f river UI because your hand looks like one that is going to showdown. I was going to say that I would donk any broadway card on the river that didn't pair the board including the ones that miss us but then I realized none of them miss us. I would still bet them though.

Re: A hand vs. a friend
Your hand becomes a bluff catcher on the end. No worse hand is ever value-raising if he can read hands at all. I really hate a bluff by your friend given the prior action, but that doesn't mean he won't do it often enough to call. Especially given the likely history between u and ur friend.
As for hands, he shouldn't ever have a boat. Adx sounds about right, but he could obv have a bunch of other stuff. I think it'd be interesting what to do on a blank river. I know c/f is probably right, but i kinda like c/c. |

Re: A hand vs. a friend
If I am going to call the turn I am going to bet the turn, and I am going to call the turn.
