It also should be pointed out that Scurry could have simply told the coach "thanks for having faith in me, but Hope gives us the best chance to defeat Brazil and win the World Cup."

Just when I thought some of the opinions about this couldn't get more retarded a new and exciting angle is trotted out there.
I don't think there's a player on the planet in any sport who would do this.

Scurry wants to play and is supposed to want to play and obviously believes in her abilities. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her accepting the starting assignment.

This isn't some situation like with Grossman and Griese where the starter is being benched as punishment/motivation for the starter's poor performance.

Scurry is delusional if she thinks she is a better keeper than Solo. I agree that very few athletes in her position would have refused the assignment, but that's not the point. When Scurry stepped onto the pitch, some part of her knew that she is not as good as Solo, and that her starting lowered the team's chances of winning. That is the very definition of selfish.

Thanks for the contribution, troll. Maybe you can get both your lame ass accounts banned.

Solo shouldn't have said anything, but its not her fault, the coach [censored] up. He should be fired immediately and never be given another high level coaching job ever again.

outside a pitcher saying he's done (and I think most pitchers will always want to stay in), I laugh at the idea that any athlete saying "hey coach, i know you want me to play, but I think I'm better off on the bench.

I love how you're a mind reader and you know just what she was thinking.

And the fact that no one in sports would've declined to play actually IS the point.

Your whole post is absoulutely ludicrous.

Coach made a bad choice, Solo dealt with it in almost the worst possible way. Scurry has nothing to do with this.

When Solo wins a cup while in goal, she can talk.

yeah, Scurry would have never said that, but she should have. Stupid egotistical athletes. Older goalies will suddenly just lose form and never get it back.

Does anyone else think this is the dumbest coaching move of the year? If this was the mens team, or another sport, this would be a massive story. The only reason this is getting any real press is because Solo acted like a little girl afterwards.

BTW, I think her beef is totally justified, and I am not all that bothered she said this.

I think her public rant would bother you if you were the coach.
