Default Anyone travel a long distance in the States by car?

Due to some unfortunate circumstances with my wife it looks like I'll be traveling 2200+ miles from Oklahoma to British Columbia. I'd rather not discuss any details about my wife and I, but rather ask for advice on travel routes what I should plan etc. Any tips would be appreciated I believe I'll be going from Oklahoma, through Kansas, through Denver, then Wyoming, then Idaho, then Oregon, then Washington State then Canada. The trip is about 2142 miles, does anyone think traveling at this time of the would be hell? Anyways any help would be great ! thanks

buy a valentine one!

i just drove from wisonsin to california. books on tape (cd) are priceless, so are good sunglasses.

i lived off monster and slim jim/cheese packs.

i would stop for gas more often than i needed to, which helped me drive for 12 hours at a time. i also didn't trust my fuel gauge.

Driven NY-Myrtle Beach round trip 5 times. Have other people in the car (people you like, so maybe not your wife based on this post) and eat stuff you like rather than gas station garbage. Other than that, if you could hook up an xbox that would be pretty sweet.

I'm Canadian. For those that have driven by themselves a long distance how was the drive? Also, how often did you stop? How much did you have the trip planned out? My car gets about 25miles/gal so I think that'll be nice. Umm will my drive be difficult considering I'm going to have to go through Denver? Anymore help would be great.

I drove from New York to California. The drive took 10 days and we slept in a motel/hotel every night. Didn't do much planning in advance, just talked plans over with my friend the night before.

Burn a lot of music CDs and remember to take frequent breaks (at least one every 4-5 hours). I agree with getting good sunglasses and a Valentine One (if you want to buy mine PM me). A GPS would probably be very helpful, but I used a laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips and was fine.

I've taken some pretty awful road trips before, usually due to lack of preparation. I'm on the east coast, so I'm not sure about specifics of where to stop, but I can give you pretty decent supplies checklist. For a road trip of this magnitude you will need the following:

2 cartons of cigarettes
1 large picnic cooler
1 bag of ice
2 cases beer (domestic, cans)
2 4-packs Red Bull
1 package condoms (optional)
1 functional radar detector
3 bags chips (doritos, fritos)
2 lighters (one backup)
1 portable dvd player
1 cigarette-lighter-adaptor cell phone charger
1 large bottle advil
1 large bottle pepcid complete

Traffic won't be bad but weather could seriously suck. Pack an emergency bag with a week's worth of food, a flare, a flashlight, a (charged) cell phone battery, and the like. Tire chains or a 4x4 are advisable.

I've done a ton of long-distance driving: LA to Vermont, five round trips. Virginia to LA in February. Albequerque to Durham, NC with zero stops (1700+ miles). In the summer, I probably wouldn't give a diddly about emergency gear, but it would seriously suck to get caught in the wrong spot at this time of year.
