Default Windows XP help needed

EVERY time I restart my computer I get a popup from windows called "scan." I try canceling it at least 50x, but it keeps coming back! I finally let it do it's thing and then get prompted, "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Scan' disk and click OK.

I also have a drop down menu and above it says, Use source: 1....

Can anybody tell me WTF is going on and how I can stop it...pleeeease!

I'd suggest you try the "Technical Help" forum first. They've probably "been there, done that"

Did this just start happening? Did you install any new software? It doesn't sound like this is scandisk. Is this a virus scan?

This has happened on and off for a few months now, but I have been able to cancel it and it stops. If it is a virus scan it might be the windows scan that's included when you update.
