A vote for the dreadful Planet of the Apes remake staring Mark Wahlberg

[/ QUOTE ]

Is it really that bad? I only caught the last 10 minutes of it the other night on TV. I was pretty disappointed I missed it as I'm a big fan of the other Planet of the Apes movies, even the bad ones. (I usually catch the marathon every few years.)

The first 20 minutes or so really aren't that bad. They do a slightly different take on the Ape vs. Human society, but once they leave the Ape city it just goes completely downhill and just when you think it can't get any worse the chimp lands in his little space ship. Then you just start laughing.

Another movie that never needed to be re-made. The first one is perfect as is.

Willie WOnka? (I havent seen the remake, im just assuming the 2nd one falls well short of the Gene Wilder child-scaring flick.)

While not a great film, the remake of WW&TCF was not a bad film, and certainly doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the thread as titled.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay - I have to chime in here. The original WW was my little brother's FAVORITE freakin movie of all time when we were growing up, so from ~1985-1993 I must have seen that movie a zillion times. I hated it because of that, but compared to the new one with Depp the original is absolutely fantastic. Definitely belongs in this thread IMO.

When the kids got what they deserved in the original it was obvious they were being "punished" in a way for their bad behavior - in the new one Depp just comes across as a psycho....

How about the Pink Panther with Steve Martin doing some sort of french accent. Terrible!

Amen to that! An absolute desecration of a wonderful film.

The first one I thought of; I was so angry to hear about this movie being made that I refuse to acknowledge that it actually exists.

I vote for the Claire Danes/DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet from like 10 years ago.

That wasn't really a remake of any movie in particular. It was a different take and film style on the story.
